Non-Profit Community Relationships
"Giving back to the community in which we live & work"

Throughout our 40 year history of providing services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, we have been immeasurably enriched by the efforts of
people generously offering their services as a volunteer to our agency and to our individuals served. The most often quoted reason people give for why they volunteer is that they want to “give back to the community”. Volunteering promotes personal growth, self-esteem and a deeper connection to one’s community. With this spirit of volunteerism in mind, Lakemary Adult Day Services has developed and promotes opportunities for adults served to volunteer their services and time to other non-profit organizations and businesses.
Volunteer opportunities in Miami and Johnson Counties have involved regularly scheduled deliveries of meals for home bound individuals
who benefit from the Meals on Wheels Program, packaging meals for Harvesters, reading to children in the Head Start program, and assisting during disaster relief efforts. Visiting adult care facilities and engaging elderly residents in activities and arts and crafts is another favorite volunteer opportunity for our individuals served. Community churches have also benefited from our volunteer efforts to fold church pamphlets and “stuff” envelopes. Sorting recyclable items is another task our adults enjoy.
Volunteer opportunities may be developed on-site at our Miami or Johnson County Service Centers or may be accomplished at the site of the nonprofit...
whichever works best. Lakemary staff coordinates transportation to and from the site, manages scheduling, provides supervision, and assists with any necessary training.
